THE BRIEF

Peter and Margaret’s brief called for a unique, site responsive residence that dissolved the lines between internal and external environments. Moving from a 3 acre semi-rural property to a 400sqm inner city home they wanted a voluminous space without the feeling of being boxed in.

SCOPE OF WORK

Extensive excavation of the site allowed for a far greater living area than the block size suggests. Deceptive from the streetscape the home houses a 100sqm cellar which required considerable excavation and intricate level of logistics for a small inner city build. This feature enhanced the internal living space of the residence and met the owner’s brief of a climate controlled storage and entertaining environment separate from the main living areas.

Both Planning and spatial strategies were utilized to maximise the sites long northern axis with expansive glazing and strategically placed openings bringing in an abundance of light and allowing for controlled cross ventilation. These planning considerations allowed the home to achieve a 7.5 Greenstar rating.

RESULTS

A beautifully crafted custom built home with strong attention to detail and design.  This home boasts a natural material pallet that provides a feeling of warmth and tranquillity the moment you step inside.
